Renovations often generate interesting conundrums with some of the requiring imaginative and original solutions. The Virreyes by Kababie Arquitectos in Mexico City is one of those projects that required both meticulous planning and precise execution. Located on an angled lot the house demanded a very special design that delivered a modern and fresh interior. Home owners also wanted clearly demarcated separate areas with each having its own distinct functionality. The result is a contemporary residence that is an amalgamation of three segmented parts.

Sporting three different entrances for the living area, garage and the home office, the entire building exudes a warm and inviting vibe. While the exterior is clad in slate quarry, the interior is draped in a combination of stone, glass and wood. Traditional aspects of Mexican design and artwork are carefully and delicately incorporated into a modern setting to create a distinct appeal. Public areas are housed on the lower level while the private quarters are placed on the top floor.

A savvy design plan ensures that each room flows into the next as warm earthen tones and plush decor exude a uniform theme throughout the private residence. On the second level of the house are a family room, gym and the guest rooms along with the master suite. The backyard with a lovely garden and a soothing Jacuzzi cap off this Mexican delight!

To make more evident the angle of the lot, the facade was divided in two. One side was covered with quarry slateto create a contrast of texture and color with the other side that has the garage doors. A small wooden door, in the same tone of beams of the first level, is the entrance to the office.
