Challenging Beach House Project by Baenziger Coles Studio

Challenges are what make life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life meaningful. Melbourne-based studio Baenziger Coles had a great challenge ahead of them when they took on the Point Lonsdale Beach House project.

Located in Point Lonsdale, a coastal township on the Bellarine peninsula, near Victoria, Australia, this modern residence gave the architects a hard time with its design. The main challenge was the site, which was flat leaving little to the imagination on how to create a dynamic shape. Secondly, it was difficult trying to incorporate a two-storey house in a single level house area.

This contemporary house is a wonderful place to land, it is functional, it responds to the natural environment and is eco-friendly. As you can see the architects chose an open floor plan in order to create a light, airy space. The living and dining areas have a common feature, a double-sided fireplace which is the focal point in both areas and also works as a space divider.

Point Lonsdale Beach House is a soothing and sophisticated residence. It is a mixture of openness and privacy, with the quality of external architecture reflected in the interior spaces. With its gorgeous outdoor spaces and modern interior design this house is a true oasis.
