The Top Outdoor Furniture Trends for 2018

‘Tis the season for enjoying the outdoors! With spring in the air, the perfect mild breeze is gracing our porches and patios. In some areas, it won’t be long before the mosquitoes are out and the blazing temperatures of summer strike. In other words, now is the time to savor an outdoor meal and lounge in the fresh air! If you’re shopping for furniture to spruce up your outdoor space, you’ll love this year’s collections. Not only is the product photography gorgeous and inspiring, the furnishings and accessories can’t help but reflect a desire to create a vacation vibe at home. Keep reading for a few of our favorite outdoor furniture trends

Cabana Style

Ready for a resort vibe? A large number of cabana stripes can be found in this year’s collections, and this trend shows no sign of fading. In fact, black and white stripes caught our eye last year, thanks to the bold design of CB2. Below, the brand’s Filaki Lounger makes a big statement with its striped cushions:

CB2 also encourages you to deck the floor with striped outdoor rugs, including this Black and White Outdoor Runner:

Who’s ready for a trip to the ocean?! There’s something inherently beachy and elegant about bold stripes. From black and white to red and white, this Cabana Outdoor Umbrella from Anthropologie can’t help but evoke the glamour of a Mediterranean vacation:

You can also find plenty of cabana style in the next section, which puts an earthy spin on outdoor furniture…

Easy Breezy

Simple, carefree and breezy, this next trend blends vacation vibes with earthy style. Nothing epitomizes the look like the Serena and Lily vignette above. The brand’s Cabana Stripe Outdoor Pillow Covers add a dose of laid-back style to the seating of your choice:

Linen, teak and rope are a few of the materials that give the easy-breezy trend pizazz. In fact, Anthropologie’s Handpainted Hanging Planters are suspended by rope, and the handpainted terracotta pots have a relaxed, weathered look.

Speaking of relaxed, woven stripes create a beachy, welcoming vibe, especially when placed on comfy furniture like this Suren-Striped Clive Indoor/Outdoor Ottoman, also from Anthropologie:

For seating that you can pull up to the water, this Teak Sling Chair from Serena & Lily is available in a variety of weather-friendly fabrics:

This is chic summer style at its finest, folks!…

A Touch of Blush

We may have published a recent post asking if lavender is the new millennial pink, but when it comes to outdoor style this year, pink is the accent color of choice! Especially if a hint of blush is introduced into your furniture vignettes.

CB2’s 20″ Dusty Pink Outdoor Pillow (shown above and below) proves that blush is the perfect outdoor accent, as it can be combined with other patterns for a refreshing yet calm look.

CB2’s product photography is filled with blush tones, and the pics are truly stunning! These Lucinda Dusty Pink Stacking Chairs pop against a wall in a lighter shade of pink. Like a delicious sherbet, they look good enough to eat!

For a bigger dose of blush, check out Anthropologie’s Tassa Indoor/Outdoor Sofa in Melon, beautifully juxtaposed with summer fruit in the photo below:

Undeniably Modern

When it comes to this year’s outdoor furniture collection photo shoots, none knocked our socks off quite like Anthropologie! With bright lighting and bold shadows, the photos create a vivid retro-modern landscape that is energizing and dreamy at the same time. While the brand is often known for a boho chic look, it features many modern pieces in this year’s collection, proving that contemporary style has inspired a range of retailers in 2018.

Above and below, we see Anthropologie’s Calo Indoor/Outdoor Side Tables, featured in colors such as Mango and Lime. Bold angles and interesting facets reign in these furnishings.

More modern tables (this time with an ombre effect) can be seen in the photo below, along with the modern Barwick Indoor/Outdoor Swivel Chair:

These concrete Contrast Pots, available in Raspberry and Blue, have an artistic look, thanks to bold shapes and bright splashes of color. Many of this year’s most alluring modern finds highlight the powerful simplicity of hue and form.

For more modern container fun, check out the new Bau Pots from ferm LIVING, inspired by the lines and surfaces of Bauhaus architecture! Muted shades (including Dusty Rose) can be seen in the offerings below.

When it comes to outdoor style, do you prefer a cabana-style resort look, an easy-breezy earthy vibe, the soothing tones of blush, or an artistic, modern feel? Don’t worry, you can choose more than one! Happy outdoor decorating!
