A good modern stocking can be hard to find! Often when we search for holiday decor that reflects our favorite design trends, it can be more of a hunt than a fun shopping trip. While writing today’s post, it surprised me that many of my favorite modern shops don’t carry holiday stockings (perhaps they’re too seasonal?)… But rest assured I found some pretty amazing options, and I was also inspired by the DIY possibilities that I came across! After all, if you can’t find what you’re looking for, you can always create it. We’ll be sure to tell you how to recreate all these looks!

Below you will find 10 stockings that celebrate popular trends such as modern patterns, faux fur and tassels. Enjoy, and Happy Holidays!

Modern Patterns

Let’s get started with stockings that showcase modern patterns! Many ’80s motifs are currently in full revival mode, including the splatter paint look. This Christmas stocking in gold splash from ferm LIVING is the perfect blend of edginess and metallic flair. This one in a simple DIY. All you need is a plain cream stocking and some gold acrylic paint to create the splattered effect.

ferm LIVING also offers a Christmas stocking in black stripe, which crisply captures the diagonal stripe trend while putting a Scandinavian spin on holiday style. DIY the look with this Amazon knockoff brand striped stocking and use gold acrylic paint to create the unique splattered look at the top.

While I didn’t intentionally try to stick with black, gold and white for the first section of today’s post, it seems that many popular hip stockings revel in this palette! In the next image we see two stockings that are worth noting. Yes, it’s a 2-in-1 photo. Once again, these are simple DIYs. All you need is that handy gold acrylic paint or black acrylic paint and a stencil!

Warm and Fuzzy

Anyone else noticing the prevalence of sheepskin pillows and faux fur throws this season? In fact, fluffy textiles have been going strong for awhile, and they show no signs of disappearing from our design radar. No wonder so many modern stockings are embracing the cozy textile trend. It’s a winter-perfect addition to the holidays. Below we see a trio of Sheepskin Stockings from CB2, but you can get a similar faux fur stocking from Amazon here.

These Ultra Faux Fur Stockings from Restoration Hardware are made from spun acrylic and polyester. At $24, they definitely look more expensive than they are, and we’re loving the monochromatic vibe!

A silvery hue gives the Faux Fur Stocking in Stone White from West Elm its signature look. Once again, acrylic and polyester are the materials of choice, and just as with the stockings above, this gem can be monogrammed:
