How to Add the Color Pink to a Modern Room

With pink becoming a popular “it” color over the past few years, it’s no wonder the hue has even made its way into this season’s holiday decor palette! Yes, it’s official: pink has made a big comeback. While it will always have the ability to add a soft touch to the room, it has also become an interesting choice for modern interiors. Just how do you make the color pink edgy rather than traditional? Read on as we show you a few strategies for giving pink an unexpected twist…

A Pink Backdrop

For starters, let’s look at how to incorporate a large dose of pink into your interior. Painting an accent wall pink is a great way to go, especially if you choose a soft, blushing shade that can be offset by edgier decor. Below we see the Magical Thinking Woven Wall Mirror from Urban Outfitters. Because this piece is packed with modern Boho flair, it’s the perfect choice to complement the rosy wall behind it!

Pink tabletops have also made a splash this season, especially in the design blogging world. After all, they are ideal backdrops for interesting serveware, especially pieces in brass and copper tones. Below we see a DIY custom table by A Beautiful Mess blogger Laura Gummerman. Learn more about how to build this piece here, and in case you’re curious, the color of paint used is Valspar Crystal Coral:

Rosy Textiles

When it comes to textiles, now is the time to bring on the pink! You can even go bold with a pink couch, especially if you offset it with geo and metallic pillows, as well as a faux fur throw. In the next image, we see a vignette from CB2:

Speaking of pillows, this bedroom makeover from Design Love Fest features two pink pillowcases that are the perfect blushing addition to a room filled with neutral tones. Bright pink flowers in a vase next to the bed add to the rosy theme with a bold pop of color:

You can even add pink to your interior with a blush-toned floor cushion like this Tufted Corduroy Floor Pillow from Urban Outfitters. On a day you feel like downplaying the pink, you can stash the pillow in the closet until the need for extra seating arises. But in a room filled with grey tones and interesting patterns, there really is no need to downplay the pink!

Pink Plant Life

Plants: they make it possible to add pink to your interior in small doses. Try a flowering cactus for a modern greenery statement with a soft touch. Bonus points if you display it in a metallic planter! [photo from Urban Outfitters]

And we just couldn’t resist featuring this modern yard, an outdoor “room” that is packed with gulf mulhy. This native grass flowers in the fall, and the pink cloud-like blooms are the perfect way to set a modern pink tone before you even step through the front door! Accessories in Blush

Last but not least, let’s take a look at small pink accents in the form of accessories! Thanks to the recent Memphis-Milano revival, mixing pink with bright colors (even primary hues) is totally on trend. Below we see a colorful vignette featuring the pink Askew Vase from CB2:

Rose quartz blends a pastel pink hue with modern style, especially when geo forms are involved! These Decked Out Pink Stone Coasters from West Elm are actually alabaster, but they have the look of rose quartz. And that brass detailing is the perfect modern flourish:

Mixing rose quartz with other minerals brings candy-colored style home, as seen with this grouping of minerals in the same bedroom makeover from Design Love Fest that was featured earlier in the post. Pink, lavender and mint make a fetching modern combination, don’t they?
