Luckily, a community of resourceful folks across the internet have been proliferating the notion that IKEA pieces are merely building blocks to help you create unique furniture customized for your home. Hidden Storage Space

Why build out to create an extra closet when you can find all of the storage you need underneath the bed? That’s what Cathrine and Hans Edblad did by using two MALM dressers to elevate their son’s bed, adding lots of space for clothes and toys without giving up any square footage in the room.

Nora of Oh Yes really outdid herself with a hacked DIY platform bed that effectively creates an entirely new level in her room while also adding storage space below. We especially love how the drawers pull out of the sides of the steps — ingenious!

Here’s a DIY storage bed tutorial that even the least handy of us can handle. All it consists of is an EXPEDIT bookcase laid on its side with a few wooden slats on top — easy peasy!

If you have small children, you likely shouldn’t show them this amazing bed fort because they probably won’t leave you alone until you build them one of their own. Designed by Gisela Vidallé, the Little Forest House, as she calls it, is based on the KURA bed but slightly altered and wrapped in MDF with wood veneer.
