DIY: How to Make Wine-Themed Placecard Holders Out of Recycled Corks

Do you have a whole pile of old wine corks that you aren’t sure how to use but don’t want to throw away? Here’s a fabulous and fun DIY way to turn them into vino-themed placecard holders for your next dinner party. All you need are some corks, a utility knife and some paper to print out your guests’ names, and the entire project should take you about 20 minutes (depending on how many people you plan to invite to your soiree). The best part? After your party, you’ll amass even more wine corks to turn into fun recycled objects.

DIY Recycled Wine Cork Placecard Holders

Here’s what you’ll need to get started…
– wine corks (preferably with pretty printing on the sides)
– an Olfa or other utility knife
– printed placecards with your friends’ names (design your own or use our template)
– scissors or a paper cutter

Method 1 (for vertical placecard holders):

Step 1:

Print out our template or your wine label design. Then write your guests’ names on the wine label placecards and cut them out using scissors or a paper cutter.

Step 2:

Stand one of your corks up on its side and carefully use your knife to cut a groove across the center of the top. Using a rocking motion seems to be more effective than a sawing motion. The groove only needs to be about 1/8″ deep. Repeat this step for all of the corks you’re using.

Step 3:

Once you have your notches cut out, slide your wine label placecards in so that they are secure.

Method 2 (for horizontal placecard holders):

Step 1:

Print out our template or your wine label design. Then write your guests’ names on the wine label placecards and cut them out using scissors or a paper cutter.

Step 2:

Stand your wine cork on its side and use the same rocking/cutting motion from Method 1, but cut all the way through, splitting the cork in half. This takes some patience, but isn’t complicated and gets easier with practice.

Step 3:

Once you have your two wine cork halves, lay one on its flat side and use your blade to create a notch across it horizontally.

Step 4:

Once you have your notches cut out, slide your wine label placecards in so that they are secure.

And there you have it – easy and free placecard holders. Doesn’t this make you want to start planning your next wine-tasting party?
