Ormond Esplanade residence in Melbourne reads as pure modernism, but also translates as ‘saint kilda’, ‘beachy’, ‘like a boat’, ‘bright’, ‘green stuff’,’fun’, ‘spotty gum’, as per the client’s request, and many other appealing and out-of-the-ordinary features.
The absurdly and playfully abstract project by Judd Lysenko Marshall architects has been turned into this cheerful, modern, lively and, most importantly, sustainable building. It is endowed with solar panels and natural ventilation systems. The overhanging wood clad facade features large and protruding windows and colorful ornaments and scuttles. The interior is no less spectacular, perpetuating the sensory and meaningful architecture and managing to convey a both refined and children-friendly impression.
